Obverse: The obverse (front) of the coin displays a detailed head of a youthful Dionysos facing right. Dionysos, the god of wine and revelry, is depicted wearing a tainia (headband) and a wreath of ivy and fruit. His hair is often shown in curls, sometimes falling down his neck.

Reverse: The reverse features a nude Herakles (Hercules) standing, facing front. He is resting his right hand on his club, which is grounded, and draped with the skin of the Nemean lion over his left shoulder and arm.

Inscriptions: Greek inscriptions surround Herakles, typically reading ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ (of Herakles the Savior) and ΘΑΣΙΩΝ (of the Thasians).
