Description
1896 Queen Victoria Silver Crown – Veiled Head (Old Head) – LX Variety, S.3937
This is a fine example of the 1896 Silver Crown, issued during the reign of Queen Victoria. Struck in sterling silver, the coin features the Veiled Head (Old Head) portrait of the Queen on the obverse, designed by Sir Thomas Brock. Introduced in 1893, this portrait depicts Victoria in her later years, wearing a veil, crown, and royal jewellery.
The reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic design of St George slaying the dragon, one of the most celebrated motifs in British numismatics.
