The “Young Head” refers to the portrait of Queen Victoria used on coinage early in her reign (before the Jubilee / Old Head designs).

The 1847 Crown is part of the Crown (5 shillings) silver coin series. It features Victoria’s youthful portrait on the obverse and a crowned, quartered shield within a wreath on the reverse.

The edge of the coin bears the inscription “DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI XI”, indicating the 11th year of Victoria’s reign.
