1897 Queen Victoria Silver Florin – Veiled Head, S.3939
This florin was struck in 1897 during the final years of Queen Victoria’s reign, and is part of the Veiled Head (or Old Head) coinage introduced in 1893. Designed by Sir Thomas Brock, the portrait reflects Victoria in her later years, crowned, veiled, and draped.

The obverse shows the veiled and crowned bust of Queen Victoria facing left, draped in royal robes, surrounded by the Latin legend proclaiming her titles.

The reverse depicts a crowned arrangement of shields for England, Scotland, and Ireland, set within the Garter, and flanked by national floral emblems (rose, thistle, and shamrock). Around the border is the inscription: ONE FLORIN TWO SHILLINGS, with the date below.
